I pay attention to my thoughts and judge them to purify my mind.

udgment is not a dirty word. There are many metaphors in the Bible for the judgment of our thoughts and words. One most know is separating the sheep from the goats. Another is the idea of refining noble metals, such as silver or gold, to produce pure vessels. This is the same metaphor alchemists would later use.

But how do we do it? The first step is to pay attention. Listen to the words we speak. Pay attention to the words that flow through our minds. Are we thinking and speaking Truth? Or is what is coming out of our mouths gossip and nonsense mired in Earthly existence? In the second step, we purge with denials and purify with affirmations.

Proverbs 25:4, “Purge dross from silver that it may come forth a pure vessel.”
